Swimming Lessons

Today, was a good day. I woke up, fixed a small issue with my ecommerce application and then headed over to pick up Kami to go to church. Kami had to be in the nursery today, but I opted to go to the service instead of be in there with her. During service we have a time of which you are welcome to share any good things that happened in the last week and normally I do not talk about my personal life in church, but today three people were urging me to do so I got up and announced Kami and I’s engagement (if I didn’t…they would have!). Well, everyone in the room was happy to say the least. I got a round of applause and congradulations from everyone in the room.

Afterwards, we talked with several people who wanted to see the “ring” and then went back to my place to have Sunday lunch (just the two of us). After all, we had spent most of the weekend visiting people so we could show them the ring and announce our engagement, so we really wanted the time alone. Following lunch we headed over to her Aunt Judy’s house to 1) show her the ring, and 2) teach Kami how to swim.

Teaching Kami how to swim was puzzling at first, but I quickly found ways to illustrate to her how to swim. We started by trying to get her to float on her back, but when that wasn’t working, I decided to shoot for treading water. Which, is pretty much the same thing as floating, but you are upright and just keeping your body off the floor of the pool by kicking your legs and waving your arms.

After that attempt, I decided to just teach her how to “doggie” paddle. Though, after a lot of practice it isn’t so much “doggie” paddling anymore. She is flat out swimming. Her form isn’t as smooth as it could be yet, but its only been one day and she has accomplished from entirely fearing water to being able to swim 24 feet across a 6 foot deep pool. I am extremely proud of the amount of effort she put into it. I thought after a few failed attempts she might give up on me, but she continously pushed herself into learning to swim. Talk about courage!

Following our swimming lessons, we left to go take care of a few dogs we are watching and then back to my place for dinner. We had French Bread Pizzas for dinner and I just love those things! They are so easy to fix and are filling. Following dinner we watched television and then went to go lock up the church. Luckily no one was there so we were able to lock up fairly quickly tonight with no interruptions.

I then took her home as we are leaving for Fort Wayne tomorrow to visit more friends of hers and to announce our engagement and to show them the ring. On the way there, we plan to stop in Van Wert so I can show her where Central Insurance is located (just incase I get the job). Plus I think it would be fun to show her their building anyway, as it is a unique design. I will try to remember to take my camera to get a few pictures for all of you.
