Bad News…Swimming Lesson: Part 2

Today was a day of horrible news. I got a phone call from Central Insurance around 11:15 AM and we talked for quite a while. Pretty much, the conclusion was, I was offered the job!! So of course, my title is misleading, but why should I stop now when I have been doing that to numerous people today. :-P To start off, I called Kami, my fiance, and I started out with the following:

(Me) Hey, I just got off the phone with Central Insurance and I am afraid I have bad news. (Kami) You didn’t get the job? (awkward silence) (Me) Well, I have to move to Van Wert. (Kami) Why? (Me) Cause I was offered the job! (Kami) Don’t scare me like that! You about gave me a heart attack! .. (more excessive screaming and jokingly threats)

The second person I called was my Mom. Our conversation went much to the affect of:

(Me) Hey, I finally heard back from Central Insurance and unfortunately I have bad news. (Mom) You didn’t get the job? … (puzzled) … (Me) Well, I have to move to Van Wert. (Mom) You got the job! Don’t scare me like that! (Me) Well I did it to Kami too… (Mom) You shouldn’t scare her or your mother like that! Shame on you ! (said jokingly)

Following my Mom, I had to tell my grandparents, or at least my Grandma. Our conversation went like:

(Me) Well, Central Insurance called. (Grandma) What did they say? (Me) I got the job!

Okay, so that one wasn’t funny. At that moment, I was caring less about tricking people, I was overwhelmed with excitement at the time. However, I was back in the mood around 2:00 PM when by Grandpa got home.

(Grandma) Matt has news about Central Insurance. (Grandpa) What did they say? (Grandma) You should talk to him. (Grandpa) I hear you heard back from Central Insurance. (Me) Yeah, they called around 11:15 AM… (Grandpa) You didn’t get it? (Me) Well… I have to move to Van Wert, as they offered it to me! (Grandpa) You little stinker! You had me thinking they didn’t offer it to you!

So as you can see, I have been tricking people all day and thus why stop now? I am a Central Insurance employee as of July 18th and I am pysched about it! I am now apartment hunting in the Van Wert area, and I am setting up times to visit the apartments I have called about on Friday so Kami and I can go see them. So far we have two in mind that seem to be worth a visit. (Yes, I will be taking my camera so I can show you pictures)

Now, this afternoon, Kami and I had another swimming lesson, or rather, Kami had another swimming lesson from me. I must say, she is doing fabulous! Her stroke is becoming much better and she is beginning to relax enough to let her body float and let the water gently slide along the side of her face. Now, many of you are probably thinking… “Okay, what is that about…water sliding across your face — big deal!” For a person who has feared water since she was 4 years old, it is a very big deal to even get in a pool, let alone, all water up to your cheeks.

Today, we focused on improving her technique. Her first lesson, was just a matter of getting her to swim. Not necessarily using a technique that has you floating on water while you paddle with her arms and kick your legs, but just thrusting your arms and legs so your head stays above water. Today, we focused on allowing her body to do the majority of the work by floating on the water, and having the arms and legs act like propellers on a boat — purely used for movement.

She flat out enjoyed herself and I am very proud of her. To show my appreciation, I gave her a neck massage, as I knew she was having neck cramps. Of course, I did this after dinner (which was Tacos) while we were watching the movie: “Hanging Up”. The movie was quite boring to me, but Kami remained interested in it.

Following the movie, we came back to my place and fixed ourselves Milk Shakes and then she headed home after learning how I write my postings on this site. I am very pleased she has taken an interest in how the majority of my freelance work happens. I find it very comforting that she continues to improve her knowledge over the Internet and computers in general. I couldn’t be luckier.
