It’s Official! I am Engaged!

Well, today was a WONDERFUL day for me. I was up at 6:00 AM getting ready to leave at 7:00 AM to get to my third and major Interview with a company whose ideals are just outstanding. It took me approximately an hour to get there and my Interview was to start at 8:30 so I was early. To lose some time I drove around the area to see what all was there as far as companies go and to just get a general idea of what the area looked like.

The Interview started off with me talking to an employee in Human Resources, following that, I was asked to take an Aptitude Assessment Test and I must admit, they have a VERY GOOD TEST. I was pleasantly surprised with how much it had my brain racking to solve a few of their questions. After the test, I had an Interview with two supervisors, both of who work in the IT department and focus primarily on Personal Insurance as far as development goes. Following my interview with them, I was off to lunch with two more supervisors. We went to the company’s country club and I was just amazed at how fancy everything looked and thoroughly enjoyed the treatment the company provided me with as I participated in interviews.

Their presentation was just outstanding and just made my feelings for the company more overwhelming. During lunch we communicated over a variety of topics, not entirely on the job duties, but regarding my hobbies, activities, work experience to some degree, and my relations with my family. After lunch, two of the three supervisors had a more formal interview with me and asked very good questions. In fact, everyone asked very good questions and I was pleased to be asked them as they definitely tied in with the job and the company. The last person I got to meet was the Vice President of the IT Department. We had a more casual interview, not so much related to the job, but just a few questions on what I would do if I were to get the job as far as living arrangment and so on. Afterwards, he took me up to the second story to view the building expansion progress so I could see everything going on.

During my interview, I asked everyone I met two questions. 1) How they would describe their work experience with Central Insurance and 2) What their thoughts were regarding the building expansion. The first was the one I was most interested in. I wanted to hear how many worked their way from an entry level position up to where they were now, and I wanted to get information on how the felt about the company, if it was an organization that truly met up with their expectation or even went beyond them. I must say, I was very pleased with the answers and that my initial thoughts were indeed verified and they did thoroghly enjoy the work environment. The second question was to primarily to allow them to show me their enthusiasm. I know everyone there is extrememly excited about the expansion (after all, who wouldn’t be?) and so I just wanted to provide a relaxing moment to where they could tell me all about it. I read up on the majority of it on their website, and so I knew quite well how exciting it was going to be, especially for the IT Department.

Engagement Ring with Wedding Band -- Click to EnlargeNow that I have teased you for four paragraphs, yes, Kami and I are now officially engaged. I proposed tonight around 4:20 PM where we had our first kiss, and she was overwhelmed and entirely surprised. Today, happened to also be her 23rd birthday and so that too made it special. I knew she was dreading this day, as her parents and her had been having a rough time due to a lack of communication and so for three weeks, I had been planning this in my mind and was very happy that I was able to pull it off without anyone leading it on to her (though to tell you the truth, only 3 people knew about it in the city of Findlay — Jon, Heidi, and Myself). Jon and Heidi only knew about it, as I needed to borrow their home so I could propose as Kami happened to be house sitting at their home and that is where our first kiss occurred. Thank you Jon and Heidi for all of your help!

So everyone knows, we do not have a set date in mind as of yet for the Wedding. All I can tell you is it will be sometime in 2006. All those interested, just let me know and I will make sure you know when it is.

Preparation

Today I primarily prepared every event tomorrow and everything I may need for my Interview and for a certain other event. :) I wrote down a lot of questions to ask while I am at the company and hopefully everything goes well. So far, I have had a great relationship with the company and we seem to be going in the same direction.

I have to be up at driving by 7:00 AM so I can make it to their office at 8:30 AM. Then I will be there going from person to person till 2:00 or 3:00 PM. Once on my way home, I will be home shortly before I must leave again so do not expect to have any communication with me tomorrow, as it is unlikely that I am there.

Kami helped me come up with a few questions from a college book she had, and their questions were pretty good, though some definitely wouldn’t apply. She is also going crazy on what I have planned tomorrow evening. It is so much fun watching her squirm with anticipation.

After coming up with the questions, we went to Cheddar’s for dinner and then back home to watch television and cuddle. At 9:05 PM we went to the church to lock up and then I came home and got ready for bed, as getting up early is hard for me so I could use the extra sleep.

Finally, I implemented a small request for making Extra Fields Hidden on my ecommerce application so a long time member can use the 0.07 release instead of the horrible 0.06 version. Cross your fingers, say a prayer, and hope everything goes well for me tomorrow!

Being Ignored.

You know, life provides interesting days from time to time and this one was particularly interesting. Kami and I spent the majority of our evening at her parent’s home and were completely ignored by her father. Her mom ignores Kami too, but doesn’t seem to ignore me.

Anyways, normally when we are seen they at least say ‘Hi’ or sometimes even a few more words than that. Today, they did no such thing. In fact, the only thing said to me by her Father was “Thanks”, after I had passed the chips to him during dinner.

I was over at her house since a little after 3:00 PM as I knew she would be there around 4:00 PM. So until she came over, I played nerf guns with her younger siblings and had a blast setting up the basement as a warehouse with obstacles to hide behind and then blasting them as they came down or rather, having them blast me when they came down. :-P

Following nerf guns, I played basketball with them and had a good time. We primarily focused on the game ‘PIG’, which is exactly like ‘HORSE’. Wasn’t the most thrilling time, but it had its moments. They lowered the hoop to see how high I could dunk the ball bare footed, and unfortunately, I was only able to get to 8.5 feet (white guys really can’t jump!).

After that time, Kami and I had to go lock up the church and make sure no one was there, then we just went to my place as I needed to pick up my Playstation 2 to take back to her house as Nathan and I were going to play games. We played GTA III and Vice City for a while then decided to watch ‘Cruel Intentions 3′ and ‘Never Die Alone’. Both of those movies SUCKED! They were completely a waste of time. ‘Cruel Intentions 3′ was a wannabe of the original ‘Cruel Intentions’ but just did not have the actors who could portray their roles. ‘Never Die Alone’ was a complete waste as the whole movie seemed slow. There wasn’t anything interesting in the movie and the fight scenes were completely lame. Why would I watch a movie about a drug dealer when I could just go to Houston to see the real thing!
